Stimmie is reinventing the toothpick

Stimmie, the world’s first premium reusable toothpick, has launched to help people achieve cleaner teeth, better breath, and more confident smiles—in real time.

Stimmie is reinventing the toothpick

Each durable and sleek Stimmie has been designed for repeated use, lasting up to three months. It’s a perfect pocket or purse companion that’s convenient for all of life’s moments, getting rid of tricky food remnants on the go while effectively removing plaque bacteria.

The inspiration behind Stimmie came from over 30,000 conversations between Founder and seasoned dental hygienist Stephanie Nightingale, and her patients. “I’ve never been the type to preach and tsk tsk about daily flossing,” she says. Instead, she’d ask the people in her chair specific questions that would allow her to learn about their individual needs. “I’d ask, ‘what are you doing at home’, ‘what would be easier for you?’, ‘why do you love X product?’ and get so many different answers, from product feedback to hopes for their smile to basic lifestyle needs. No matter a patient’s walk of life, the conversations led back to a common theme: oral care was boring, cumbersome, and a bit mystifying.” There was a strong need, she adds, for easy products and practices that can be streamlined into people’s daily, busy routines.

Nightingale also saw a moral imperative to create more accessible oral care, as gum disease numbers and repercussions continued to spike. According to the CDC, over 47% of adults ages 30+ have some form of gum disease, which can increase risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, pregnancy complications, and dementia.

Nightingale asserts that a Stimmie does not replace flossing, but acts as an on-the-go solution that combines with brushing and flossing to help ward off gum disease and bad breath in real time. It’s also a great option for non-flossers (who represent a significant segment of the population) looking to do more to improve their oral health.“Creating something that makes people actually want to care for teeth and gums, any time, anywhere is pretty freaking cool,” she says.

And while any-time, anywhere single-use toothpicks may be ubiquitous, they tend to bend, break, and splinter. They may satisfy the need for quick cleaning, says Nightingale, but can actually cause damage to teeth and gums. Stimmie’s unique dental-grade rubber tip safely and effectively gets rid of food from between teeth, removes plaque from under the gums, and stimulates gum tissue, helping to reduce the risk of gum disease and make for happier, healthier smiles. Each Stimmie also has a sleek ventilated cap that allows for breathability, while keeping the tip clean in your pocket or bag.

Plastic floss picks and other single-use solutions also contribute to global environmental challenges, ending up in landfills and oceans and adding to plastic pollution. Each reusable Stimmie and its packaging has been designed with sustainability, ease, and aesthetic value in mind. Partnering with 1% for the planet means that Stimmie allocates 1% of all sales to environmental non-profits fighting to defend air, land, water, and wildlife world-wide.

Nightingale designed Stimmie to complement the premium beauty products traditionally housed on bathroom vanities and in purses. She believes that oral care should be something to celebrate and be proud of. She has taken a utilitarian product and given it a glow up—the sleek design is made for showing off.

“For years oral care has been boring,” she says, “but we plan to change that.”
