OpenTable, has revealed Canada’s top trending international cuisines for 2022.

With Canada’s population  growth and cultural diversity cementing its spot on the world stage, it comes as no surprise that 136 types of international cuisines are represented nationwide on the OpenTable platform.  

Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal offer the widest range of cuisines, with over 50 to choose from. Edmonton and Ottawa are close behind at over 35 different cuisines each.

A regional breakdown of trending cuisines can be found below (trending defined as seeing the greatest increase in reservations compared to pre-pandemic 2019): 

Vancouver: Korean (329%), Mediterranean (96%), Moroccan (84%), Indian (46%), Latin American (26%) and Contemporary French (22%). 

Calgary: Pacific Rim (239%), Mexican (199%), Mediterranean (39%), Latin American (32%), American (26%), Contemporary French (26%) and Japanese (9%). 

Edmonton: American (37%), Modern European (21%) and Indian (2%). 

Toronto: Contemporary French (184%), Persian (829%), British (110%), Thai (97%), American (91%), Mediterranean (38%) and Asian (33%). 

Ottawa: French American (503%) and Italian (19%). 

Montreal: Japanese (240%) and Italian (200%). 

Nationally, the 10 trending international cuisines are as follows:  

  • British (+89%) 
  • Thai (+70%) 
  • Mexican (+57%) 
  • Middle Eastern (+42%)  
  • Lebanese (+28%) 
  • Latin American (+21%) 
  • Asian (+18%) 
  • Mediterranean (+16%) 
  • American (+14%) 
  • Contemporary Italian (+4%)
